Soul Gumbo

Soul Gumbo is a collaboration with Neil Mitchell, a dad friend I met on the school run. Neil and I soon worked out a few more things we had in common besides our girls going to the same school. We live around the corner from each other; are similarly afflicted by a love of collecting vinyl (and nerding out on Hi-Fi matters of Great Importance); and so naturally decided we should commune around a pair of Technics and play each other records over a few beers. As often as possible.

Now we play each other records once a month at Spiritland (Kings Cross) on its singular, hand-built sound system, inviting people into our musical wheelhouse which is situated – in case you were wondering – in the swamplands of the US at the particular crossroads where jazz, blues, funk and soul all meet to do deals with the devil.

Here’s a short taster of the kind of thing you’re likely to hear at one of our Soul Gumbo sessions. Get your mess of it!
